Neymar On Being Named Brazil’s Captain

By Keegan Kruger

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has been named the permanent captain of the Brazil national team after manager Tite scrapped his controversial rotation policy.

The 26-year-old, who has led his country on many occasions before, has had to share the armband with the likes of Thiago Silva, Marcelo and Miranda since 2016.

Neymar, who was heavily criticised for his performances and antics at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, told members of the media that he was delighted to be made the permanent captain of his country.

“I accepted again because I’ve learned a lot and I will learn much more. And this responsibility will be a good thing to me,” the former FC Barcelona star said at a press conference, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

The forward also spoke about his disappointing World Cup campaign, and admitted times were tough.

“I think that probably no one here in this room will ever live something close that I’ve lived, not even during the Olympics, but after the World Cup as well,” he added.

“I was targeted by many critics, a lot of bad things and I wasn’t OK at that very moment (after the game against Belgium) to speak. So when I’m not OK to speak, I prefer to stay shut because the silence is the best answer.”

The PSG talisman has made 90 appearances for the Selecao so far, scoring 57 goals and assisting a further 35 strikes. -Soccerladuma
