Another Injury Nightmare For Mzansi Striker

By Soccer laduma.

South African striker Lebo Mothiba, who missed the entire 2020/21 season due to injury, suffered yet another setback that has threatened to derail his plans for the upcoming season.

The Racing Strasbourg striker was kept out of action all of last season after undergoing a knee operation back in August 2020.

Despite resuming training in January this year, the 24-year-old relapsed.

Now, after seemingly shaking off his injury woes and returning to training with his teammates under the watchful eye of new coach Julien Stéphan, Mothiba suffered yet another setback.

According to reports in France, the striker felt “a little tug” on his knee – the same one that was operated on, and will have to wait until at least August before a return to action.

According to the player’s coach, the latest setback is not necessarily a relapse, but rather a precautionary measure taken so that the highly-rated striker is not lost to injury for a second consecutive season.

“Lebo has several more weeks to go. It’s not a relapse, but you have to be careful, because he went a year without playing. He felt a small tug in his operated knee. We will take our time with him, adjust his program throughout the month of July, in particular so that he recovers muscle mass. We will see how it evolves and we will certainly consider a more extensive recovery in August,” Stéphan told the club’s media department.
