Likoma Police has advised communities in the district to stop committing suicide but rather seek help whenever in problems.
This comes after two people committed suicide barely within three days.
Likoma Police spokesperson, sub inspector Mcliff Ngulube said on July 5, 26 year old Gift Patel committed suicide after disagreements with his wife.
Ngulube said after three days, another 62 year old man identified as Andrea Chikoti of Kachere Village Traditional Authority Mkumpha III also ended his own life.
The PRO said that Chikoti who has been sick for several years, called his relatives on July 6 and told them he was tired of his illness and medication.
He said upon hearing the concerns, the relatives comforted and encouraged him to continue taking medication and assured him of plans to take him to a good hospital for further treatment.
“In his response, he said no one should bother taking him to hospital for further medical attention, until the following morning when his wife discovered that Chikoti was not in the house.
“She informed his relatives and together they started looking for him. They found Chikoti’s body hanging in a tree in a nearby bush. The matter was reported to Likoma Police Station where officers rushed to the scene and took the body to St. Peters Hospital,” said Ngulube.
Ngulube said postmortem at Likoma District Hospital revealed that death was due to suffocation.
