Police in Lilongwe on Wednesday found Wisdom Chanika, 28, dead after he went praying at Bunda hill in the district.
According to Deputy Spokesperson for Lilongwe Police Station, Sergeant Foster Benjamin, the deceased’s father, Damex Chanika Mwale, a resident of Area 36, reported the matter to Area 3 police station.
“Chanika who was a theology student at Mzuzu University used a different name called Zue Machilika.
“On August 6, 2020, the deceased went out to Bunda Hills for prayers and Bible study, since that day Chanika never went back home,” Benjamin said.
The spokesperson added that Chanika is said to have been praying alongside an unidentified woman whom he reportedly left behind with some of his clothes.
He pointed out that the woman deposited Chanika’s clothes at Village Headman Mkwinda following his missing.
“Chanika was later found dead by a hunter who immediately reported to security officers at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources,” he said.
The police publicist said police dispatched the body of the deceased to Kamuzu Central Hospital for identification and postmortem.
Postmortem results showed Chanika had succumbed to severe head injuries.
Wisdom Chanika hailed from Mgomba Village in the Area of Traditional Authority (TA) Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district.
