Chelsea are speeding up negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for wonderkid Kai Havertz after qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The Blues have been hunting down the 21-year-old for some time, after already having a busy transfer window with the signings of RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is hoping to bolster his attacking options from more with the German and their fourth placed finish in the Premier League will help them secure his signature, according to Bild.
Leverkusen, who finished fifth in the Bundesliga, are asking for a whopping £90million for the attacking midfielder, who is currently contracted to the club until 2022.
However, the German outfit will not force Havertz to stay for their remaining Europa League matches during August – having only qualified for the Europa League next season as well.
Chelsea are looking to spend some serious cash this summer – whilst most other clubs will be operating on a limited budget due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
After being dropped on the final day of the season in Chelsea’s crunch match with Wolves, there are further links with Kepa Arrizabalaga, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, leaving the Blues to return back to Spain.
