Salima organisations urged to assist the needy

By Grace Kapatuka – Mana.

Darusunnah Foundation has called upon non-governmental organizations working in Salima to channel their resources towards uplifting lives of the needy.

Country Director for the Organization, Sheikh Sumailla Allan made the remarks in Salima on Thursday when his organization handed over a K 1.4 million house it constructed for Marriam Mustafa, a widow who was in need of shelter following her husband’s death.

He said it is the wish of his organization to ensure that lives of those in need are improved especially women and children.

“Mama Mustafa used to occupy a small house with other eight members of the family. The condition of the house was very bad and too small for nine members. As an organization working towards uplifting the lives of the poor, we thought we could come and construct her a good house so that we improve their livelihood,” Allan said.

He called upon other non-governmental organizations working in the district to ensure that they channel some funds of their projects towards assisting those in need.

“There are a lot of people suffering out there who need our support. We know government is working towards uplifting their lives but government alone cannot manage to reach out to everyone hence the call to other NGOs to come in and assist them,” Allan said.

He said his organization would continue with charity work for those in need in areas of health, education and construction of good houses for them, so as to improve their well-being.

Traditional Authority (TA) Kalonga commended Darusunnah for the gesture saying it would go a long way in alleviating the problems the family faced in terms of shelter.

Mustafa thanked the organization for the house saying her family will now live comfortably.

The house has been constructed with funds from trustees of the organization from Sweden.
